Oriental Vase, Berries and Oranges

Here is my newest painting. I am learning the value of the "process" of painting today more than ever before and I consider this to be a priceless perspective. When I am engaged fully in the process of what I am doing I see brushwork that seems to flow with expression and color notes discovered that command notice. It is a wonderful experience of harmony.

Apple Blossoms with Green Apples

Here is my latest painting, a little larger than previous daily works. Needless to say I spent a few days refining this one and bringing it to the stage of completion I was happy with. There are brushstrokes evident in the blossoms, but I was also refining/softening edges where I needed to especially the blossoms farthest away. Working on paintings that offer new challenges is stimulating to me and keeps me on my toes.

Painting isn't easy...sometimes I do experience a thrill when the moment I place a stroke down I sigh, ahh. But I enjoy engaging everything in me; past experience, words of guidance, notes of genius and so much more when I am creating something that is new and beautiful to me.

Gerbera Daisies

Take a look at my yellow Gerbera Daisies. Just put on the last brush stroke and too wet to move it will rest there until tomorrow. I may revisit a few places tomorrow, but I am pleased with the results of a productive day in my eyes.

I hope you enjoy my newest piece.

Snapdragons with Antique Vase

Here is another daily painting of a beautiful spray of snapdragons. The colors are bold, the contrast is strong and the paint is thick and lucious.

Thank you for visiting...come again soon.

Red Berries with Chinese Vase

I just completed this painting of red berries. I was able to work through several questions such as color harmony, contrast, even subject matter. I began the painting just focusing on the Chinese vase as I am endeavoring to get a very good 'read' on porcelain objects in different light. Once I was happy with the way the vase was going I thought, hey, I will just make it a complete painting...so I contemplated putting hydrangas in the vase but glanced over at my little storage area and was drawn to the berries I picked in the woods a few days ago.

The perfect combination I thought. I hope you enjoy it.

New art class I will be teaching...

I will be teaching a new class this fall using a wonderful portrait by Lord Frederick Leighton by permission from ARC. The portrait title is, Phoebe, and a beautiful example of classic English portraiture.

We will transfer the image on a toned canvas and then proceed to use a raw umber glaze to cover the entire surface. The next step will be to 'wipe out' the lights establishing the lights and the middle value. Then the darks will be included using more raw umber. That concludes the first stage.

I will post images as the work proceeds. Here is the first stage completed...

My new Daily Painting...

Here is my first painting with pansies. I am learning a lot about painting things farthest back first and layering as well as painting specific parts of the painting to a level of completion before moving on to another part of the painting. This has been working very well and I agree with what I have heard from another artist... that it helps me to have a part successfully completed. My motivation and inspiration seems to get a jolt and helps me move forward easier.

Thank you for visiting...

Daily Painting, Fall Pear

I have a new painting from my daily works. There is something about red that I just love. I find that the primary colors just make me happy. I also like fall colors, and winter colors (except gray) and spring colors... I guess I just want to say something about color period.

I will be making more studies of pears in the coming days so watch for them to be posted. Perhaps I will also include a short video demo.

Tidying up loose ends...

Now that my new website is active I am working on some loose ends. I will be offering my work for sale through Ebay and have many ideas for new paintings. I enjoy the looser more painterly look that I am currently working on and look forward to perfecting my skill and expertise painting by painting.

I have discovered since graduating from the Atelier Studio of Art a little over a year ago, that I must continue to challenge myself and reach for new heights. The worst thing for me is to stagnate and loose the spark and excitment I feel when I take on new projects. I have stayed within the lines for a long time. Now I am just learning to absolutely love what I do. Not every painting comes out as well as I would like it to, but with every painting I am learning and absorbing truths that will translate into my love for art.

This painting was GREAT fun and I am very pleased with the results. More to come soon...

Staying the course...

Greetings...

Today I will be painting some beautiful peaches. I enjoy sharing the process which I undergo hoping that others out there will be inspired, receive encouragement, and even acknowledge their own progress and skill in an affirming way. I find much stimulation in being part of such a hugh community...the art community. I love the commonality that is shared by others with likeminded purpose. Let's do this thing...and do it joyfully.
